Lead With An Abundance Mindset

Updated: Dec 6, 2021

The last eighteen months have no doubt stretched our capacity to shift and change with the times. And, with limitations, restrictions and supply issues on everything from paper products to gas, it is no surprise that scarcity is what dominates our minds right now. So, I felt this is a good time to ask leaders to take a step back and recalibrate. Now more than ever, we should be encouraging an abundance mindset. If you are unfamiliar with the scarcity . Abundance mindset and how to switch gears, this article is for you!

I’m going to drop some pure facts on you right now. This is SCIENCE.

According to Forbes there are five ways to mentally move from a scarcity mindset to one of abundance. Personally, I’ve witnessed more ways, but this is a good start to become familiar with your next steps into building wealth in every facet of your life. This can be difficult but I know you are up for the challenge since you’re here and reading this.

Before you continue, you need to understand that we were not programmed to think in terms of abundance. We were taught to think as workers, as doers and as executors of someone else’s will. Once we accept that, the next step is unwinding what we’ve been taught throughout our formative years.

First: understanding that an abundance mindset is the paradigm shift that requires you to understand that there is more than enough of whatever is needed for everybody. There are enough clients. There is enough money, there is no competition, because there is simply enough for everyone.

That may be the hardest part for many who have been indoctrinated with the hustle culture that has permeated our upbringing. Understanding that there is enough. Once you understand that there is enough, there’s no room for fear. If there’s no room for fear, more chances can be taken, more calculated chances mean more growth.

The Next Step is to understand that the mind is elastic and the mind is everything. “ What you think, you become.” Mindset, over and over has been the most critical component of success in every facet of life.

A perfect example is a study that Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck performed with a group of students. She examined mindsets among young students and found that children who have a growth mindset that intelligence can be developed are better able to overcome academic challenges than those who have a fixed mindset that intelligence is predetermined.

Now that we understand the science behind creating an abundance mindset, how do we accomplish the reprogramming of our brains and build up the muscle it takes to truly modify the way we think? Like any muscle group, it’s important to continue the development. Below are some of the tools I recommend to help you get started.

Get Grateful

If you haven’t started yet. Get a journal, or a tear away calendar, or even a napkin and write out three things you’re grateful for every day. You’ve heard of gratitude journals, and they’re a great idea, but sometimes it’s just the action of writing down the things that are going well to start that mind shift. Put your gratitude notes where you can reach for them in quiet moments and reflect on what a complete masterful powerhouse you are because your life is amazing and you have attracted all of these good things. Read for yourself.

Be More Giving and put things into perspective.

I typically don’t recommend comparing yourself to others and I discovered this great tool while reading other blogs and educating myself so I'm happy to share it here. In this case, you can really put things into perspective and measure your wealth, your opportunity and your belief structures compared to the rest of the world. In fact, it may even adjust your perspective to see how lucky you truly are, and show what an amazing step up you are coming from just by being where you are. Take a moment and click the image below to show you how rich you truly are.

Educate Yourself:

It’s not all up to you to do everything internally. Grab as much reading as you can. Listen to the books on audible, free Youtube videos, and of course keep coming back to my blog.

Here’s some amazing mindset shifting, brain fuel for both you and those in your sphere of influence. Some great assets include but are not limited to:

1. Anything by Robert Kyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad.

2. Three Feet from Gold by Greg Reid

3. The Richest Man in Babylon

4. Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

5. Listen to a guru of mindset. Whomever interests you and speaks to you. I’ve listened to many.

( Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuck, John C Maxwell to name a few. )

There are many more out there for free on Youtube or Sound Cloud. Be resourceful, but don’t stop until you find one who resonates with you.

Don’t Leave Anyone Behind:

If you have read this far. You are building your own wealth, legacy and community. So be the leader you have been called to be right now. Take people with you through the journey. Teach what you know and mentor others to accept that the mind CAN be reprogrammed.

Most Importantly Remember to Start from where you are today with no apologies. You’ll be happy when you look back and see how far you’ve come. For more inspiration and a little social justification, save my blog to your favorites here or join me on social media on Instagram or Linkedin
